ePIPE awarded UK – WRAS Approval
The Water Regulations Advisory Scheme (WRAS) has approved the use of ePIPE, a high performing epoxy resin from Pipe Restoration Technologies, LLC, (PRT) for in-situ application for hot and cold domestic water contact in pipes having an internal diameter from 12mm (1/2″) with a 2 hour return to service.
Under the WRAS approval scheme ePIPE was found suitable for contact with wholesome water for domestic purposes having met the requirements of BS 6920 ‘Suitability of non-metallic products for use in contact with water intended for human consumption with regard to their effect on the quality of the water’.
Service pipe lining provides a cost effective alternative to communication or supply pipe replacement on either lead replacement or leakage programmes.
Since lining of the entire service pipe will be more cost effective than replacing just the communication pipe, this process provides a more comprehensive and robust solution to tackling dissolved lead within the water supply. In 2013, in the UK, the acceptable dissolved lead levels will reduce from 25ug/l to 10ug/l (25ppb to 10ppb).
ePIPE technology was developed to provide a barrier coating inside an existing pipe, preventing both pipe leakage and the leaching of heavy metals such as lead into the water supply. It provides a proven, cost effective alternative to repairing or replacing customer-side or communication pipe work. Why repair when you can reline an entire service?
ePIPE installation services in the UK is provided by Pipe Restoration Services, www.piperestorationservices.co.uk
With the UK – WRAS approval and acceptance completed, we are now in process on approvals in the United States for the new generation of faster return to service lining products. A 2 hour service return will be a welcome addition to the ePIPE product line.
