Getting ready for the 2002 Winter Olympics, The Marriott’s Mountain Side Resort at Park City Utah had taken on a high profile prominence.
The outdoor swimming pools and spas nestled in a mountain like setting were being stained with a green copper staining. Investigation into the problem revealed that the copper piping system servicing this newly built resort was showing signs of early corrosion of the copper pipes. A complex copper piping system running underground and embedded in the concrete patio decks was leaching a greenish blue stain, associated with corroding copper.
Re-piping the copper piping system was proving too costly due to the location of the piping system. Re-piping with copper lines would also leave the chance for the staining to reappear. Plastic pipes were out of the question owing to local plumbing codes.
The only solution was to coat the copper pipes, in place, with a corrosion control barrier coating - the ePIPE System.
In ten short days, the ePIPE team restored and reassembled the entire piping system that serviced the outdoor pools and spas. Pipe sizes ranged from 2¨ to 6¨ in diameter. In total, over a 1/2 mile of copper pipe of various sizes was restored. During the process, none of the underground piping had to be dug up or replaced. None of the architectural features of the resort had to be altered and none of the existing services apart from the pool and spas were removed from active service.
