ePIPE, a hydrophobic epoxy-based protective barrier coating, was recently approved by the National Sanitation Foundation (NSF) to NSF Standard 61.5 Immediate Return to Service testing for commercial hot water exposure.
This approval applies to potable water pipes ½” and larger, with applied coating thicknesses up to 120 mils. The NSF commercial hot water criteria covers both cold and hot water exposure up to 180°F/82°C.
The 2-hour cure ePIPE product was developed to help reduce water service interruptions while meeting required health and safety criteria for potable water systems.
For property owners, building managers, water utilities, and contractors, this means ePIPE projects can be staged more efficiently to minimize water shutdowns. Depending on the project scope, many ePIPE pipe restoration projects can now be completed in a matter of hours rather than days.
In addition to NSF approval, the 2-hour return to service ePIPE product is also approved in the UK, Belgium, Spain, and South Africa.
In the UK, ePIPE is approved under both WRAS and Regulation 31 for use in private and public water systems. Product rollout in other jurisdictions is ongoing.
Across these jurisdictions, ePIPE is the only 2-hour cure epoxy-based protective barrier coating approved for application in drinking water pipes ½” and larger.
The primary objective behind the development of this product was to deliver a protective barrier coating and application system that meets the needs of water regulators and customers alike: minimal interruption to water service, while satisfying required health criteria for potable water systems.
Traditional pipe repair or replacement can require extended shutdowns, invasive construction, and longer project timelines. ePIPE’s 2-hour cure protective barrier coating provides a faster alternative for qualifying potable water pipe applications, helping restore service quickly while supporting compliance with applicable drinking water standards.
For commercial buildings, public water systems, private water systems, and other facilities where downtime matters, ePIPE offers a practical solution for restoring potable water pipes with reduced disruption.
