Pipe Restoration Technologies, LLC (PRT) announced that it has been awarded US Patent #8354140 by the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) for enhancements to its ePIPE pipe restoration technology.

The patent focuses on improvements to the ePIPE system, an internal barrier coating process designed to restore pipes from the inside while the existing piping remains in place. This technology helps prevent leaks and reduce the effects of internal pipe corrosion without relying on conventional pipe repair or full repiping methods.

The patented ePIPE technology applies to multiple types of piping systems, including:

  • Potable water pipes
  • Natural gas lines
  • Fire sprinkler systems
  • Drain lines

By addressing pipe deterioration from within the existing system, ePIPE offers an in-place pipe restoration solution for properties where traditional repiping may be disruptive, time-consuming, or costly.

“Our research and development team are proud of our ongoing innovation program and this accomplishment. This is our 7th patent that focuses on in-place restoration technologies.” said Larry Gillanders, CEO

The ACE DuraFlo®, ePIPE® team has also been recognized for its innovation in pipe restoration. The team has been twice nominated for the US National Medal of Technology and Innovation, one of the highest honors for technological achievement in the United States.

In Canada, Larry Gillanders qualified as a candidate for the 2013 Manning Awards for Innovation, further highlighting the company’s continued focus on developing advanced in-place pipe restoration solutions.

The US National Medal of Technology and Innovation is the highest honor for technological achievement bestowed by the President of the United States on America’s leading innovators.

Supporters of the ePIPE nomination for this honor included Dr. Marc Edwards, Professor of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Virginia Tech. Dr. Edwards has also been honored by the White House with a National Science Foundation Presidential Faculty Fellowship.

Why This Patent Matters

US Patent #8354140 reflects the continued development of ePIPE technology as an alternative to traditional pipe replacement. By using an internal barrier coating process, ePIPE can help extend the life of existing piping systems, reduce corrosion-related issues, and support leak prevention while minimizing disruption to buildings and occupants.

For property owners, facility managers, and building professionals, patented in-place pipe restoration technology provides a practical option for addressing aging or deteriorating piping systems without removing and replacing the entire pipe network.
