Pipe Restoration Technologies, LLC (PRT), developer of the ePIPE® in-place pipe restoration system, announced that it has been awarded U.S. Patent #8206783 by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).

The patent focuses on methods that improve the cleaning and lining of smaller diameter pipes. Specifically, it provides coverage for ePIPE’s system designed to enhance the evacuation of dust and debris during the pipe cleaning process. By removing more dust and debris before lining, the process helps create a cleaner pipe surface and supports more consistent application of the protective pipe lining.

Improved dust and debris removal can also assist with better adhesion of the lining to the interior pipe wall. This is important for small diameter pipe restoration because proper surface preparation is a key part of creating a durable, effective in-place lining.

The patent applies to pipes used in several important systems, including:

  • Potable water lines
  • Natural gas piping
  • Fire sprinkler systems
  • Drain lines

“Our research and development team are proud of our ongoing innovation program and this accomplishment. Focusing on commercializing smart innovative green solutions is part of our “Made in America” philosophy. This patent, added to our existing portfolio of patents and IP supports us in this pursuit” said Larry Gillanders, CEO.

Continued Recognition for ePIPE Innovation

The ACE DuraFlo®, ePIPE® team has been nominated twice for the U.S. National Medal of Technology and Innovation.

The National Medal of Technology and Innovation is the highest honor for technological achievement bestowed by the President of the United States on America’s leading innovators. This recognition highlights technologies and innovators that have made lasting contributions to America’s economic, environmental, and social well-being.

Supporters of the ePIPE nomination included Dr. Marc Edwards, Professor of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Virginia Tech. Dr. Edwards has also been honored by the White House with a National Science Foundation Presidential Faculty Fellowship.

Why This Patent Matters

For property owners, contractors, utilities, and facility managers, pipe restoration technology offers an alternative to traditional pipe replacement. Instead of removing and replacing existing piping, in-place lining methods can restore pipe systems from the inside.

Patent #8206783 strengthens ePIPE’s intellectual property portfolio and reflects the company’s continued focus on practical, innovative pipe restoration solutions. By improving the preparation and lining of small diameter pipes, the patented process supports consistent results across a wide range of piping applications.
