Pipe Restoration Technologies, LLC (PRT), makers of the ePIPE product line, announced that it has been granted its 12th U.S. patent, U.S. Patent #8887660, for its ePIPE System. The patented technology supports the coating and sealing of the inside of piping systems using a barrier coating leak sealant.

What Does the ePIPE Patent Cover?

This patent covers methods and process steps for mapping, cleaning, and applying barrier coatings to the interior walls of piping systems. Using the patented ePIPE process, pipes can be cleaned in a single pass with dry particulates forced by air, then coated in one single pass.

The ePIPE System is designed to help protect pipes from water corrosion and lead leaching while improving water quality, restoring water flow, and sealing leaks in place. The system can treat pipes ranging from 1/2 inch up to 6 inches in diameter.

Pipe Systems and Buildings That Can Be Treated

The patented ePIPE system and materials can be used on a wide range of piping systems, including:

  • Potable water lines
  • Natural gas lines
  • HVAC systems
  • Drain lines
  • Fire sprinkler systems

The technology can also be applied in many property types, including homes, apartments, high-rise hotels and resorts, office towers, high-rise apartment buildings, condominiums, and schools.

Expanding Patent Protection in the U.S., Canada, and Europe

This latest patent demonstrates PRT’s continued commitment to product development and innovation in pipe restoration technology. It also adds to the company’s expanding patent portfolio, which includes patent coverage in the United States, Canada, and Europe.

Fast Return to Service With In-Place Pipe Lining

The ePIPE two-hour return-to-service in-place lining material is approved by NSF in the United States, Belgaqua in Belgium, OTEC in Spain, SABS in South Africa, the United Kingdom’s WRAS, and the UK’s Secretary of State for use with public water systems in the UK.

For applicators and property owners, ePIPE offers the added benefit of restoring pipes in place with minimal downtime. Instead of replacing entire piping systems, the ePIPE process allows existing pipes to be renewed from the inside.

The two-hour cure ePIPE epoxy is one of the fastest return-to-service epoxy lining products in the world. It is designed to help protect drinking water pipes from leaks and lead leaching while improving water flow.

“ePIPE is approved for application to drinking water pipes from as small as ½” ID. ePIPE applicators save time/money and their customers enjoy the benefits of minimal down time, with many properties being restored in less than a day,” said Larry Gillanders, CEO Pipe Restoration Technologies, LLC.

ePIPE Recognition for Innovation and Sustainability

ePIPE technology has also earned industry recognition for innovation. The technology was named the winner in the “Best Innovation Adopted” category at the UK Energy Innovation Awards for developments in protecting natural gas lines.

In Spain, the ePIPE team was awarded second place in the “Selected Products” category for Innovation and Sustainability at Barcelona’s Construmat Fair.

A Patented Solution for In-Place Pipe Restoration

With its 12th U.S. patent, Pipe Restoration Technologies continues to strengthen the ePIPE System’s position as an innovative in-place pipe restoration solution. By cleaning, coating, and sealing pipes from the inside, ePIPE helps property owners, applicators, and facility managers address leaks, corrosion, lead leaching, and water flow concerns while reducing downtime and avoiding full pipe replacement whenever possible.
