The Water Regulations Advisory Scheme (WRAS) has approved the use of ePIPE®, a high-performance epoxy resin from Pipe Restoration Technologies, LLC (PRT), for in-situ application in hot and cold domestic water pipes.
The approval applies to pipes with an internal diameter starting at 12mm, or 1/2 inch, and allows for a 2-hour return to service after application. This makes ePIPE a practical option for projects that require fast restoration of domestic water systems with minimal disruption.
Under the WRAS approval scheme, ePIPE was found suitable for contact with wholesome water for domestic use. The product met the requirements of BS 6920, which evaluates the suitability of non-metallic products used in contact with water intended for human consumption and their effect on water quality.
For property owners, utilities, contractors, and water providers, this approval supports the use of ePIPE as a pipe lining solution for domestic water systems in the UK.
Service pipe lining provides a cost-effective alternative to communication pipe or supply pipe replacement, especially for lead replacement and leakage reduction programmes.
Rather than replacing only the communication pipe, lining the entire service pipe can provide a more comprehensive solution. This approach may help address dissolved lead within the water supply while reducing the need for excavation, disruption, and conventional replacement work.
In 2013, acceptable dissolved lead levels in the UK were scheduled to reduce from 25ug/l to 10ug/l, or 25ppb to 10ppb. ePIPE technology was developed to help create a barrier coating inside existing pipes, reducing pipe leakage and helping prevent the leaching of heavy metals, such as lead, into the water supply.
ePIPE is applied inside an existing pipe to create a protective barrier coating. This in-place pipe restoration process is designed to help prevent leaks, reduce corrosion-related issues, and limit contact between water and pipe materials that may contribute to lead or other heavy metal leaching.
For many domestic water systems, ePIPE offers a proven, cost-effective alternative to repairing or replacing customer-side or communication pipe work.
Why repair when you can reline an entire service?
ePIPE installation services in the UK are provided by Pipe Restoration Services.
With UK WRAS approval and acceptance completed, Pipe Restoration Technologies is also pursuing approvals in the United States for its new generation of faster return-to-service lining products. A 2-hour service return is expected to be a welcome addition to the ePIPE product line.
