The Problem

With the Spanish Navy’s new submarine, Isaac Peral, being christened in Cartagena, Spain we are pleased to announce that ePIPE has been part of the build-out of this world-class project.

The Isaac Peral is the first of four S-80 class submarines being built for the Spanish Navy by Navantia, a Spanish state-owned company.

Navantia, wanting to address solutions to abate corrosion of piping systems, reached out to ePIPE España (Spain). Navantia engineers, working with the ePIPE team for more than a year, set up a program to test the effectiveness of ePIPE protective coatings as a way to prevent the effects of corrosion and electrolysis. ePIPE coated pipes were prepared and underwent extensive testing by Navantia.

The Solution

Both the potable water and gray water piping systems, with pipe sizes up to 4” in diameter, were protected using the proven patented ePIPE system. Pipes were prepared off-site and installed in the build-out phase of the submarine.
