Just 15 years old, the USNS Soderman was experiencing encrustation and signs of corrosion in its air vent and back up petroleum product steel pipes.
The pipes, which were ¾” in diameter and approximately 70-80 feet in length, were located on the starboard and port side propeller shafts, making accessibility extremely difficult for a traditional repair. Such a job normally would take months, and cost hundreds of thousands of dollars.
Knowing that the patented ePIPE process had successfully restored the pipes of other Naval vessels such as the USNS Dahl, Watson and Watkins, ACE DuraFlo was contacted to see if the ePIPE process was a viable option for the USNS Soderman.
The ePIPE process was applied to this system, and the project was completed in just one week.
Not only was the ePIPE process able to drastically cut the time it took to restore the pipes, but saved the US taxpayers hundreds of thousands of dollars when compared to the conventional fix.
The air vent and back up petroleum product pipes are now protected from future corrosion and leaks, thanks to ePIPE.
